My daughter has been attending the Palo Alto Kumon Center for about 3 1/2 years now and has developed very good math skills because of it.  Its not easy work as the kids have to work on daily worksheets to develop their math skills.  But overtime them develop the math skills and confidence to excel in school.  Currently my daughter is about one year ahead of her peers in 3rd grade (Public School)  She enjoys math and even tries to help her classmates in school.  In summary it takes a commitment to work on the daily worksheets and the support from the parents to encourage your child to keep working at Kumon and the results will follow.  Winston.

You pay $60 registration fee plus $120 per subject. The instructors will only teach the kids for 15 minutes and will be given a bunch of homeworks. No wonder it takes a lot of months for the kids to be good. 15 minutes twice a week is nothing.I think it's best for the kids to learn how to study first before you put them in kumon, Otherwise you will be doing all the work.

My Son has been at this Kumon for about two years and he has accelerated in English. He is now in 3rd grade and has 4th grade level vocabulary. I'm impressed how independent he is when doing homework. Janet is so hands on and knows all her students personally. She is so approachable and knowledgeable about each students progress.

My 2 children were enrolled for 6 weeks in this program at the Cubberley site. As per the Kumon philosophy/gimmick, both were started at math levels well below their grade level. Despite compulsively completing their booklets and doing well on assessment tests, the booklets if anything got easier and easier. There was little to no interaction with the teenage kids who had been hired to work there, and the owner was always busy talking to new recruits. In all fairness, my oldest daughter found it somewhat helpful to review her material, but this could have been completed in half the time (or less). The only positive aspect about this program is that it forces children to devote regular time to reviewing basic math facts. We plan on taking this discipline and applying it to more age-appropriate math worksheets and math games, both of which can be found for free online.

My 6th grader and 4th grader love Kumon Mountain View. They do their Kumon Math homework everyday without being told, and eager to go to Kumon class on every Wednesday. The owner is very friendly and patient with kids. The cost is reasonable. I would recommend this center to anyone.  My husband and I are very happy that we enrolled our kids.

As much as I complained so much about this Kumon Center, it was worth it. I attended this Kumon Center since 3rd grade to 7th grade, with all the hard work and dedication into it, it mostly paid off. The program is based on a whole week's of worksheets, rules, methods, and repetition. But there is a average completion time before proceeding to the next concept of materials. People who actually want to leanr and take their patience in this Kumon learning process is a guarantee successful student in the future. Of course, the tuition in applying for this Learning Center is very pricy, $110 per subject per student every once a month. Parents have to release up to $2000+ a year.In my personal thoughts, Kumon has shaped me to become successful in my middle school years academically, and my freshmen year so far. The main person who took over is called Mrs.Guy. Funny because she's a woman but her name is Mrs.Guy. Sorry bad joke. Haha, but anyway I docked off a star for her way of running the tutoring center. Her son is very rude, mean and disses a lot of the kids around the place. Oh, the corruption that had made this Learning Center a wreck. I decided that I would leave and not come back due to the corruption of Mrs.Guy and her son's way of running things. But now I come to think that Kumon made my life so much better and successful.

First, the place is pretty organized. But I think there are too many kids. Teachers don't seem to care and it seems like they want to keep you on the same level for too long. They will never admit to it but I would suggest checking out why your kid is not progressing that fast. The price is way too much for what you get. It's very time consuming to attend and the homework is repetitive. The owner is present quite often but there is little interaction.

I went to this Kumon center since I was in 1st grade and I worked here for 3 years. That equals to 12 years of hard work and dedication I've put into this place. The program is based on repetition and discipline. Worksheets are given on a daily basis and must be completed within a standard completion time before moving on to the next material. Those who take the time to dedicate time to this program come out successful. Those who complain about how this program doesn't work or quit do so because they don't follow the program correctly. I worked front desk for 3 years I would know first hand why people succeed and why they fail. However, it is definitely pricey, $110 per subject per student for 1 month. There are some parents dishing out over $600 every month. To contrast Mira's review, honestly, if it wasn't for Kumon, I wouldn't be where I am today. Kumon has literally CHANGED MY LIFE. As long as you follow how the program was meant to be and you put time and effort into it, it is highly effective. I was doing advanced algebra by fifth grade and pre-calculus when I barely started high school. I know students there that are only in 4th grade yet they are doing Calculus B/C and Statistics! No average parent could EVER do that. The original instructor, Nancy Nelson, is the nicest woman in the WORLD. She will never blame you for anything and always provided cookies, candies, and other snacks every work day. However, Nancy retired and Mrs. Guy took over. This is where I docked off the star. She is impatient, very assumptive, always blaming me for everything that went wrong, never gave efficient pay and actually blatantly showed favoritism! Her son is a demon of a person and I hope I never have to deal with his sick and disgusting personality again.Besides that, I've made lifelong friends, completed all math classes before my entire senior class, aced my ap test with ease, and am planing on majoring in math, all thanks to Kumon. Also, the kids here are absolutely adorable. Working as the receptionist, I was able to learn the names and talk to each and every kid. all 550+ of them. Always treat the receptionist with respect! Because with hundreds of kids and parents coming in and out, you will get treated back they way you treat the workers. My two sisters and I all attended this place and math is our forte.I have a friend I met in Kumon years ago. He made it into Harvard and Stanford.Just in case Nancy ever reads this, thank you for everything you've done and helping me get into a good college. :]

We are disgusted with this Kumon center. This Kumon center is run by a psycho-nutjob woman named Nicole Smith. Kumon's Nicole Smith is abusive to parents and students. This idiotic instructor of Kumon Nicole Smith is foul mouthed and rude. If approached about Kumon Nicole Smith twists a conversation into making it the other person's fault. Please stay away from Kumon and the instructor of Kumon Nicole Smith and Kumon of Hamilton Westend

My experience with Kumon has been bad. I enrolled by 7th grader in Kumon. It's a year now that the instructor is repeating him in 2nd grade level work. I have realized that many other parents have similar experience. Kumon us a rip-off scam. They make your child look dumb so that they can keep repeating the child and keep charging you. My advice is to beware of Kumon. It's a scam run by Asians

most people are part time students work there. They called instructors....... I would not sent my kids there. $200.00 for two subjects. If you have 2or 3 kids $400.00 ...$600.00 . Not much teaching at center. most of them are take home homework. I felt that I just buying materials from them. so why are not paying that extra hundreds.

Kumon has made all the difference! Our children were struggling in both math and language arts when we first called Kumon. Akram Kahn met with us immediately and set forth a schedule that allowed our children to improve their skills at a gradual pace. They gained confidence in their abilities and the staff at Kumon was there for them all along. I would suggest to anyone that might be considering this program to meet with Akram and you will be better off for it!

We used the Kumon math program for 3 years and the Kumon reading for 1 year and were very pleased with the entire program. We enrolled for a stronger challenge and were very pleased with the challenge and progression in confidence and skills over the past 3 years. Kumon teaches the old school way of doing math and uses a lot of repetitive problems to help reinforce and commit the concepts to memory. When you come out of the Kumon program, you will know your math backwards and forwards with confidence. Highly recommended.

We learned about Kumon through three families in our neighborhood who had their children at the Kumon Center in Mequon. Each family had nothing but wonderful things to say about Kumon and the progress their children made while at the center in Mequon. We homeschool the boys and had been doing math consistently but felt like they needed a little something extra to supplement what we had been doing at home. So after learning about Kumon through our neighbors we decided to give it a try. We have had the boys in Kumon for 6 months and have been thrilled with the results. Akram and his staff run the center with professionalism and organization. Akram knew how to talk to the children in a way that was respectful, kind, and direct, making sure they understood what was expected of them without making them feel they were being talked down to in any way. And he was very good at making sure the parents were involved and aware of their progress. I knew I could communicate with Akram via email or phone if I ever had concerns or issues I needed to discuss. I would recommend the Kumon Center in Mequon to anyone who asked!

My daughter has been a Kumon math student for almost two years, and my only regret is not starting her in Kumon sooner. Math went from being her least favorite subject in school to her favorite subject. She always received very good grades in school, but I have seen a substantial improvement in her standardized achievement test scores in school (in math) since we started the Kumon program. Most importantly I have seen her confidence level sky-rocket. I have referred multiple friends to the Kumon center in Green Bay and will continue to do so.

I highly recommend the De Pere Kumon Center! My son started Kumon 9 months ago, we see measurable results. Before joining Kumon, it felt as if math homework consumed our evenings. We were both overwhelmed and frustrated. Homework time was long and often ended in tears. Now, my son does his math homework on his own, usually in the car on the way home from school. He no longer fears his math homework. His new math confidence is evident as he quickly works independently through his homework. He is proud of his math work and his school report card (all perfect scores in math)! Update 6/25/2015 - I wanted to share with you my son's most recent STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting) Math test results - "Percentile Rank (PR): 99, math skills are greater than 99% of students nationally in the same grade. This score is above average..." I am positive that the De Pere Kumon Center helped him achieve this score.

We would highly recommend Ms. Marynell Heier and the De Pere Kumon center. Our son has been attending math classes at the Kumon center for the last 1 year and Ms. Heier's teaching style and the Kumon program have helped him tremendously, both with building confidence as well as improving his ability to quickly solve math problems at school. Ms. Heier is very particular, organized and methodical. She will show the kid how to solve a problem initially but then requires the child to think and solve problems on their own regardless of how long it may take. This has helped him in that he does not get easily frustrated and stays focused on getting to the solution. We are glad that he is part of this program.

My daughter attended this center for 3 years for Math and I am so pleased with the results. She has gained so much confidence in Math. She started off as a shy student and I started noticing that she was becoming more and more comfortable with participating in class. She is now performing above grade level and math is never an issue for her. I am a strong believer in education and I researched the best options for my daughter to make sure has has a strong foundation. I am forever grateful to KUMON!!!

The structured program of Kumon is great, the benefits of an urban experience in Detroit is wonderful, the only problem you will encounter is with the owner Ms Woff's. I have been doing business with her for OVER 5 years, and I we just recently switched to another location because the attitude and belittling became completely unbearable. I wish that everything could have been worked out because we live so close to midtown in the Arden park historic district in Detroit. The smart comments, unnecessary attitude, and constant complaints from my assistants that take my children and watch them at Kumon. The last straw came this year when she had my son and daughter SIT ON THE FLOOR (without my verbal or written consent) as an act of discipline because my daughter damaged a stool purchased from ikea. We had a formal meeting where it was no explanation or apology so we contacted corporate and switched locations. I wish her the best and I hope that things improve but I just want everyone to be aware of what they are getting themselves into. I know for a fact that I am not the only one to complain about this, Im just one of the few who when public about it.

We have had, and continue to have, an excellent experience at this learning center. The program really works. After a placement test the director of the center recommended a math level that was comfortable for our son, this made him build confidence and after six months he caught up with his class level and his grades improved considerably. The program is definitely a long term program and should not be considered as an overnight quick-fix. It is based on practicing the fundamental concepts and building a foundation for future progress; it takes some time but is definitely worth it. The staff at the center, and particularly the director, are caring and dedicated. I have been quite happy with what they have done for my son.

Like any good education program, Kumon is powered by an effective methodology that fosters skills acquisition through daily exercises and self-review. And like any successful education program, Cushing Kumon is powered by a team of highly skilled and highly effective educators. They have given my kids an awesome advantage at school that comes with complete mastery of math basics. My youngest is on track to complete Level K by the 4th grade! The program is self-paced which means students find their own level and progress at their own pace. It makes for great supplemental material as well as a very good tool for kids needing extra support. I hope we can keep our kids in the program through high school!

I dont 't think I have any postive things to say about this Kumon at this specific location. Both individuals that own this Kumon are disrespectful towards their employees, very extra and okay with the children. They need to learn how to speak to their employees at a better timing, instead of interrupting time between a helper and a student. I know this because i worked there myself. But, the students that help the younger students are great.

I had my son signed up at this centre. Everyone seem nice especially the owner Ushmeet. I think the tutoring skills there is not as good as i expected it to be especially that most instructors are young students that live in the area and come to sit with kids. I also may add that they don't emphasis so much on what areas your child needs to improve on, for those reasons i had transferred my child to a different location.

Worst study lessons I've ever been, they teach nothing, when I had questions to ask them, they told me to figure it out urself. All they do is give u the some homework go home and do them. I had to go twice a week, and all I do there is finish the assignment and let them mark it, if I got something wrong and I don't understand, They would never teach you how to do until you maybe guess the answers. I don't wanna pay money for bunch of homework, the teachers there are all university or even Gr.12 students...

My son is David Perkins. He is currently in 4th grade, and has been in resource since Kindergarten. Just before he started at Kumon last June, David was still evaluated at a Kindergarten reading level. His math was also poor. I have had gone to many tutors prior to KUMON. David had a very poor opinion of school. He had been struggling with ADHD, and behavior issues. He would go out of his way to avoid doing work. It broke my heart to see him struggle and lose self confidence. Parent-teacher conferences would mostly be a negative experience. In 3rd grade, most of his teachers would tell me that he was not focused or acting up. Overall, not a good 3rd grade year. Since Kumon, David has grown tremendously in both reading and math. He worked very hard over the summer. I have noticed the change, but was counting the days until school started to see what his teachers would say. I could not believe it when his resource teacher called me to say that she would have to "increase David's reading goals to a higher level due to his over all improvement". And this was only after the FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL! At the parent teacher conference, I saw David's work-paragraphs of beautiful writing on the wall. His resource teacher told me she has noticed an "over all improvement in both reading, and behavior." His Music teacher told me that he was like "Night and Day". His homeroom teacher said he was "Great to have in class and shown improvement in reading". For the first time, I left a parent-teacher conference in tears-(Happy ONES)!!!!!! THANK YOU KUMON!!!!!!' We learned of Kumon from other family members and their positive results and experiences. This prompted us to look into Kumon and we are so glad we did! The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Our son Daniel has attended Kumon at the Kirkwood Center over six months now. While his math skills were on par with his peers, testing revealed his math skills could be shored and his understanding of the relationships and patterns between numbers broadened. Daniel is not always excited about the daily work, but he enjoys the Center and readily admits he is excelling beyond his peers. We have seen improvement at school AND - he is gaining confidence! We are so glad we tried Kumon and look forward to Daniel's progress each and every week! Overall, we highly recommend this for any parent that has a child that needs some help getting over the hump or for a child seeking an additional challenge outside the classroom!

We registered our child for Kumon approx. 3 years ago, our experience has been amazing! Kumon has given our daughter confidence in both math and reading. Her math skills and grades at school have excelled and she loves it. She enjoys the program and even helps her classmates in school. Staff at the centre are friendly, helpful and supportive, the receptionist greets all the children by name as they arrive. We would recommend the program and the centre to anyone looking to provide their children with a individualized academic program that also develops self learning skills.

My daughter has been in the Kumon Math Program for eight years. I cannot begin to express how she has benefited from Kumon. Not only is she able to solve math problems well above her school grade level, but Kumon has helped her develop great study habits, independence and confidence. As a result, she does exceptionally well in school. We moved to the area four years ago and have been with the Kumon Math and Reading Centre Surrey-White Rock since then. The owners and staff were extremely welcoming and made the transition from our previous Kumon centre seamless. We have also found them to be flexible, understanding and accommodating when life interferes with Kumon scheduling. We highly recommend Kumon and would not hesitate suggesting this Kumon location to others.

My son and daughter have been attending this center for awhile now. They both have excelled not only academically but also in their confidence. Both the kids are taking more academic risks in the classroom and are not afraid to be wrong at times. The staff from reception to owners have greeted us with warm smiles and have made my kids feel very welcomed, important and comfortable. I usually wait at the center for my kids, during this time, the receptionist inquires about my kids progress and provides advice on some struggles I maybe having with them. She also greets my kids at the end of the session with a warm smile and positive reinforcement. I have observed her to go above her duties and shows genuine caring for all the children that come into the center. The structure at the program has helped me get more structured as a parent when helping complete their homework. In all, I am very happy with this center and do not hesitate in recommending it. Check it out!!

If you want to enter into a contract for one year that is extremely difficult to cancel, then Kumon is right for you. My son has been enrolled for a year with Kumon. I have him enrolled in the Math and Reading program. I have to admit, his Math skills have improved quite a bit. But, I noticed that in the past couple of months that his progress has been a bit stagnant. I don't think it was necessarily the fault of the program, but more so a fit with my son. It's difficult for him to stay seated for an hour to do work after being at school all day. I wish it would have worked out, I had high hopes for this program, but it just wasn't working out. Recently our family experienced a death. During this time, I reached out to the Kumon center advising them that I needed to cancel and that things were working out. To begin, I emailed twice and explained that it was difficult for me to find time to call, and yet instead of emailing me back (which would make more sense) they had their receptionist call me and leave a voicemail. I wasn't able to call back as I work quite long hours and am busy throughout the day. Also, I'm a single parents so I need an extra 10 hours added onto my day to get everything that I need done, done. In addition to that the death in the family made it quite hard to find the time to do anything. I emailed again advising I had received the voicemail message and that it's hard for me to call, but to just let me know what to do to cancel. So.... you would think in this case they would email back and just outline what to do, but nope. They got the receptionist to call, again! I found a few minutes at work to call and the call went straight to voicemail. I forgot to mention that the center is only open 3 days a week for a few hours and you have to try to get a hold of them during that time. The receptionist called me again while I was at a meeting a work, and I excused myself as I knew that if I didn't answer, I'd have to wait until the next day to try to get a hold of something again. She told me she could 'squeeze me in' on Thursday at 6.15pm. I told her that would work and that I'd be there as I didn't want to be charged any further for the program. I showed up today and was told my appointment was actually for next Thursday. I told the receptionist (Pam) that's not what I was advised on the phone and that we had a death in the family, I left early from work, and that I had to cancel one of my child's activities to make it in. I was willing to sign whatever needed to be signed, but coming in again at a later time would be difficult. The receptionist didn't not even offer condolences to the death, nor did she offer a work around solution. I offered to take the paperwork with me, or even have it emailed to me and I'd be happy to do that. She said that the meeting would have to take place in the office and "that's how they do things". I explained that it shouldn't be so difficult to cancel and that the amount of time that her and I went back and forth speaking on the cancellation, we could have completed the process. She told that I "signed a contract" and that it was detailed in there what I had to do. I explained that the contract does not state that you have to come in person to cancel, she just looked at me when I said that. I have sent a very lengthy emails to the owners (who have not replied to my past three emails) and I hope to see a response. Beware!! Only sign up if you are ready for a challenge in cancelling! I'm also pretty sure it's illegal for them to require for you to book an appointment to cancel. What are they going to do? Convince me to stay?

Quite frankly, the teachers are just kids at University or Grade 12. They have a lousey attitude and are just there to collect their pay cheque. If my kids ask a question, they give them a bad attitude or just ignore them. I didnt pay $110 a bloody month to have my kids insulted .... have now quit and put them in elsewhere (more expensive, but at least get hands-on help)

This is an English and Math learning center. I don't understand how an English learning center hires teachers with Asian accent! This is unacceptable. I don't want my son learning to read "think" as "sink" or "fink"! This is a very easy way of making money: get Kumon standard material, send the children to their desks, send them home 20 minutes later, collect $ 110,00 per subject! I'm feeling ripped off.

The center is very convenient but I wasn't happy with the services for my children. First red flag- a "misunderstanding" in terms of cancelling reading for one child and continuing for another (which I asked for) but instead charging me a month for reading for both. I asked her a or it on the 1st of the month. She could have made this right, but chose instead to take my money. Second red flag was the number of parents complaining about how rude the instructor was. While I have seen it towards others- I can't say she has been rude to me. Third and final red flag was my child turning in 3 reading books he had not even started. I went and asked for the books when they weren't in his Kumon bag because I paid for them and I wanted him to complete them. She told me he completed all of his work and I insisted he had not. She went into the trash can pulled out stacks of kids work (math and reading) and found my child's 3 unfinished books and one unfinished math book!!! I asked if they are checked when they are turned in and she said they were. I asked by whom- she said she checks them. I came home and gave my 30 days notice. Pick another center if you really want your child to have kumon! We did and will be driving an extra 20 minutes to get to it.

Ms. Zhao was our second Kumon Instructor after moving to Raleigh from another state. She has the perfect combination of patience, kindness and discipline. My daughter has been involved in Kumon for over 10 years and I believe it's an essential complement to a public school education in today's world. Because of the Kumon philosophy of mastery at the child's individual rate of progress, my daughter was given all the essential tools in both math and reading at a very early age. (The Kumon Program recommends Algebra by 5th grade.) When she demonstrated an early talent at mathematics, she was not "held back" because the other students were not yet ready for the material. The home grading aspect of the Kumon Program was very important. By grading my daughter's worksheets each day, I became very familiar with both her strengths and her weaknesses. Moreover, the Kumon program provided clarity when the school district (a few years back) was teaching out of a textbook that confused not only the students but many of the teachers, too. By focusing on her Kumon each day, she was provided a clear and logical progression that helped to develop the rock-solid confidence that she enjoys today as she applies to top Ivy League and Engineering Colleges. My daughter has a skill, in mathematics, that was largely due to her Kumon work. She is patient and does not give up until the problem is solved. I know that she developed this quality in Kumon because it's designed that way. After the Instructor introduces a new topic, the student does worksheets at home which are a variation on that topic. It requires them to read the instructions carefully (developing careful reading skills) and then apply those instructions to problems when their instructor is not easily available to "hold their hand." As a result, at a very early age Kumon students learn self-reliance and independence. As I write this I'm realizing that they also get daily practice in the skill of reading math instructions and sample problems very carefully. My evidence of this premise is that while my daughter got very high scores in mathematics on her ACT, she scored in the 99th percentile in reading and the 99th percentile in science on her ACT. When I asked her how she achieved those scores she said it was easy, she read the questions carefully. Today I know that Kumon taught her how to do that over years of daily practice. We are so glad that we invested in our child's education when it could do the most good -- when they were young. My daughter's work in Kumon helped her at every stage of her education. In elementary school, she was always two or three years ahead of grade level which made it very easy for her to earn straight "As" in every class. In Middle School her advanced mastery of mathematics enabled her to take Algebra and Geometry early and earn "As" while still in middle School. In high school she was able to take Calculus early and more than once. Always her pre-Calculus and Calculus classes were her "easy A" classes. Thank you, Kumon. Thank you, Ms. Zhao. How can we ever thank you enough?

Terrible Experience. I have heard from other parents about their experience in kumon Strongsville but did not believe until i had experience of my own. They move the kid back and give the kid same material over and over again just to make money. I was told that before but didnot think anyone would do that to a kid for money now i know. i heard Kumon in medina is much better we will try that

The place is not kept in clean condition. The teachers don't help the students. Worksheets not related to school. The owner eats food in front of the kids when the kids aren't allowed to eat. Kids have to ask owner for toilet paper when going to the restroom. The teachers aren't actual certified teachers just college students. Finally the cost of $210 dollars is just for worksheets as the students get little to no help on the worksheets that they do.

This place was terrible. I wouldn't even give it 1 star if I had a choice. The owner only cares about the money and not educating the kids. She also showed a lack of concern when I expressed reservations and suggestions regarding her lack of child safety. So I left and moved my child to the Kumon on University Dr. and it was a much better experience and location.

I just enrolled my daughter at Kumon, I wasn't planing to enroll her because she is doing great in math. My son had hard time in math and Kumkn helped him so much. To my surprise, few weeks ago back he told me that he had learned more math from Mr. Li than from school. So I decide to enroll my daughter as well. Great program and great instructor!

Agree with the previous comment about different centers. I like the program in general, but I do have concerns of higher math level ( pre calc and above) in Kumon, there are some concepts that I don't think it's necessary and it doesn't match the school system. I never had any good answers about that. This instructor is very knowledgeable about the school curriculum and I think he realizes the problem( he didn't say that of course). He made some adjustments so my kid still progresses fairly quick. 5 stars for the instructor and 4 stars for Kumon. What's with the 1 star review... Did you even join the program? What information are you trying to get, then mention other options... obviously a troll from other programs.

This the best Kumon center we have been to. I have to relocate few times from last few years and my kids went through few different Kumon centers at different states. We had some bad experiences with some centers, so this time we asked around before we chose a center for my kids, most of people we talked to highly recommended this one.. Indeed, it's the best so far in almost everyway.

We have had our daughter in Kumon (out of state) for over one year with great success. We moved here to JAX 3 months ago and placed at this location to continue on that success. Unfortunately, the experience here was HORRIBLE. They moved her from level C to level 2A (??), gave out the wrong awards (reading not math!!) and then when discussing the matter, the owner talked down to us in an almost nasty and condescending manner, with no regard. Pulled her out, BAD EXPERIENCE

I'm a big believer in the Kumon program as I've seen the benefits in all three of my children. This, however, is not a review of the program rather this particular Kumon center in O'Fallon, Missouri. Although each franchise location utilizes the same program, not all centers are created equal. Having said that, this is an excellent center. The classroom is clean, quiet and organized. The instructor adheres to the program and demonstrates a thorough understanding of it including its limitations and how to increase chances of success. She's tough, but fair. It's evident during parent conferences that the instructor is not an absentee owner of this franchise. She really knows my kids - not only their Kumon progress but their personalities and their techniques for trying to avoid doing their work!

Ms. Ekta enjoys her work and it shows. She has the patience and sensitivity to touch many different types of learners, from those needing enrichment or remediation. We had been to another Kumon Center and did not have an individualized approach. We are very pleased with our son and 2 daughter's successes in this program with Ms. Ekta. In fact, my kids somehow actually still "like" doing their packets, a bonus that I did not expect with the repetitive aspect of the drills. I would recommend this program particularly since so many of the "new Math" spiral curricula do not teach the rote facts these days.

Kumon Burr Ridge Learning Center of Burr Ridge is a convenient location near my home. The venue is at a good spot in the shopping plaza. The building is small but I like that it is small. My daughter started Kumon 2 years ago (she is 7). Just like homework there are up days and down days for Kumon. My daughter has a learning challenge with numbers and math; and Kumon is helping her learn to like and not be stressed about numbers. My daughter responds positively to the drills and repetitive work. My daughter loves to read and her enjoys the reading worksheets; and has excelled further since going to Kumon. Ms Ekta and her staff are so patient with the students in the class. In my experience, Ms. Ekta has been open and willing to discuss and explain my child's progress; especially with the new Common Core Standards in schools. I appreciate Ms Ekta and her staff for all they do for my daughter and the rest of the students. I recommend parents to at least talk to Ms Ekta or another parent with students in Kumon to find out if their child would benefit.

As a former Lombard Kumon employee, I would like to note that Kumon is a great enrichment program for students whose parents are willing to get involved in their education. I can personally say that the Instructor and all of her staff put 110% effort to make sure all the Lombard Kumon students get the practice they need in order to succeed and get above their school level. The staff is always open to questions and concerns. They have advanced to different levels of communication to simplify the contact between the parents and the Instructor. Conferences are always more than welcome! I encourage everyone who is even slightly curious about the program to set up an orientation and a placement test for their student. Take advantage of the opportunities you are given and remember that your child is the leader of tomorrow!

I had to check the place before sending my child there - I did not and it was the great fault! The place just ruins the whole idea of the child's education and learning: the home work is not checked regularly, when it is checked - it is done with mistakes!. No training or teaching at all - just charging payments. No slightest empathy to the kids! The place changes hands and owners frequently. Unless you want to have your child wasting his time and coming in tears - don't go there! Not sure about other Kumon locations, but this one - now run by A - is really bad. Be careful also and check if they charge correctly! We spoke with few other families who went there - same impression. All are happy now - after they left that place and now going to another training facilities.

While I do get the occasional whine about the daily worksheets, the kids really do enjoy coming to the Kumon center and are proud of their progress. I've also been pleased to see how my kids have begun to apply the discipline of 15 minutes of daily practice into other areas, such as upcoming test studying and sports. Highly recommended.

I brought my 4-year-old son to take a test. One lady gave my wife a form and let my son and me go inside. I just walked in and hear a voice from a room let me get out. One old guy spoke aloud to me and let me get out. But it was a little far away and I wasn't sure he spoke to me. I felt so confused and didn't respond to him. Soon later, another old women came to me and let me get out. I asked her why and who take care of my child. She said she would take a test for my son and I had to get out because no any adult is allowed in. Then I walked out and observed through the glass door. Maybe only 3 minutes, she told me my son didn't understand her and she can't do anything for him. Both of them are so rude I never been met with. The company is doing something to children. But they are so rude and impatience, how can they teach children? What do they teach? Children are the mirror of adult. If children is in this kind of surrounding, it will harm them. I never go back here. It is a nightmare for children.

My kids have been going here since December. They give 10 pages of homework a night which takes long. They come in 2 times per week and get a packet of work to do with little instruction. It gets very busy and your child won't get proper instruction. The daily work is overwhelming when they have other work to do for school. I gave a 30 day notice today. Was told I have to pay for the entire month but my children can only come through the 24th. So they will not give me a full months instruction but will charge me for it. They offered to just give me the work the kids would do at "tutoring" which proves to me that there instruction is not valuable. This is not a place for children requiring tutoring but the repetition may help reinforce topics children have learned in the past so they dont forget. For Math I would recommend Mathnasium which is close by and for reading Sylvan. If your child is behind a 1 on 1 tutor would be more helpful and would not be much more expensive. Also they are only open Mon Wed and Friday which is challenging for busy families. The place is also dirty, today I told them a little girl peed on the floor right where there were kids playing and people stepping and they didnt bother to clean. Very disgusting.

You pay for what you get and then some if you follow through at home as Kumon prescribes. My son attended Kumon for five years. With the Kumon math curriculum, student must master foundation math skills before moving on to grade level material. This was not going to happen in the curriculum driven public school. Kumon provided the extra practice and time my son required to master material before moving on. As a parent, I needed and welcomed the structure and organization Director Young Suh wielded in expertly managing curriculum, students, parents, and her staff. Thank you Ms. Suh for being a strong resource for us.

This place is horrible. This is the second Kumon center my son has been to, and the differences were significant. To start with, the main tutor there (who claims to be one of the top teachers in the country) does not engage with the students very well. They do not track what your kids are doing and they seem more concerned with being paid than the welfare of your kids. We had to travel for 1 month and they did not even notice my son was not attending (after i told them he wouldn't) - they still proceeded to charge for him and then called 3 weeks in asking where he was - it took them 3 weeks and they did not check their voicemail. I am very saddened by the fact that this center has fallen apart due to new management. There was a point where this center was ranked one of the best in the nation. The previous owner was outstanding with my children and pleasant to do business with! Very knowledgable and truly enjoyed her time being at the center which made the center more welcoming and a fun place to be for my kids. That is not the case anymore... Unfortunately I have seen the new owner lose her patience with other parents and students. She also does not take credit cards anymore as payment and requests my banking and routing number instead. Why? She does not want to pay the fees for charging credit cards. There is also no hot water when I wash my hands! I know it's good to pinch pennies but that is too far! She also will not allow my children to take more pages home for homework when they are more than capable of doing it! To me they are doing many more repetitions of packets because she does not know the material or how to instruct my children on the material so they are lost. I send them there because their work is far beyond what I can remember in my old age! It is as if she is wanting to slow them down to keep taking my money. The center has also lost a majority of excellent staff since the change who were very knowledgeable about the curriculum and instruction, both of which the new instructor is weak in from my experience. There used to be a front desk gal who knew every child and parent by name and my children loved to come to Kumon because of her. The gal that has taken her position has been a teacher for as long as we have been there. Why is she at the front desk now? My children always say that she is the only one who can explain the material in a way that they understand since the change in management. The staff that are still there from the previous owner look very unhappy and I expect them to be gone too very soon. I can't blame them, as a family who has been there for 3 years I am unhappy too. I transferred to this center a few years ago after being unhappy with a prior center, but now I am even unhappier with this center and I will be leaving this Kumon for my old one due to my concerns being ignored continuously.

Wendy is a great teacher and my experience with my son for the past two and a half years is extremely positive. He is at G+ level in grade 4. At least two years ahead of his GT class in public school and at least 3 years ahead of Dennison elementary that is often touted as the best elementary school in Jefferson county. In addition it has taught him that he can teach himself much of what he wants in life. In our time at Kumon, I have seen children that were years behind grade level surpass grade level in two years. This is not a tutoring program. Tutoring programs do not work for developing a student. Tutoring is only a temporary catch up and not something a child who wants to excel stays with. want your child to excel send them to Wendy. She has always been good at communicating and has even set up a program for parents of advanced kids to help their kids stay motivated and progressing. We previously went to another school called Mathnasium and are happy we made the switch.

We have been a part of the Lakewood Kumon Center for coming up on 4 years. We had two children in the program and now have one. Our oldest is now a freshman in high school and has significantly improved his math skills. Thanks to Kumon, he received the fundamentals and solid foundation he needed to move on to more abstract math. Our youngest still in the program in 5th grade and made it to Algebra by 5th. He is still going strong and has been accelerated one year in math at school. He loves Kumon and is motivated to continue to grow with the program. He is not challenged in school, but gets great enrichment and challenge as part of the Kumon Lakewood center studies. I would highly recommend the Kumon program. It provides, depth and a solid mathematical foundations students need to survive mathmatically. Unfortunately, with Common Core, kids are suffering and not learning the basics anymore. Kumon teaches you that 2+2=4 . Once that is truly mastered then you can get more abstract. Don't let your kids be the next public school experiment in math. You simply cannot argue about teaching the fundamentals. Kumon works!

This review is for the Lakewood Colorado Kumon: This program is fine for learning rote calculations in elementary math. Learning is done through tons of repetition. However, the common core in education is more about reasoning and learning to solve story problems and figuring out what numbers to put where in the equation. This program absolutely does not address that and should be modified to do so. The center doesn't do much teaching, they just give out worksheets, the parents wind up doing most of the explanation at home because they have homework every day. The parents also have to do all the grading...big time commitment. The center has many add-on fees and it can get expensive. The center director seems overwhelmed and is slow to respond to parents' questions or communication and sometimes just ignores it. Overall, my child learned basic math, but I feel like we paid a lot of money for tons of paper shuffling when I did most the teaching.

My child has had some major learning difficulties and she is In the third grade. She is on a first grade level. I put her in this program and in 2 months time she rose a reading level. I have also seen some great success with her grammar. Thanks kumon. This program also helps the kids do better and achieve more if they are already successful.

Not flexible at all, les enfants sont pas bien enseignés: l'école donne l'exercice et n'explique pas comment faire, l'heure arrive, on ferme la porte. Aucune responsabilité envers les enfants.

I worked at this Kumon Learning Centers location a couple years ago, and what I saw/experienced there I will always consider one of the worst working experiences I've ever had. I began working there at the age of 16 and was extremely excited to help children aged pre-k to high school who were either struggling academically or who needed a greater challenge. What is there instead is a completely sterile environment in which the children UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are to interact with each other, and barely at all with the staff. It was still as death at all times in the facility. The worst part, however, was the management, a woman named Marlene's, unprofessional and cold treatment of both the workers and the students. The employees were given about as much authority as the students themselves and constantly being undermined. That would be almost excusable if not for the treatment she gave to the children in turn. My first week working there, I was given a verbal list of names of "problem kids" and told to watch out because they were "scheming" or "manipulative." When I finally met the "worst" child of them all, I found that it was a very gifted and, as a result, very bored and lonely EIGHT YEAR-OLD GIRL with boundless curiosity and a desire to be accepted. Put this incredibly unprofessional way of speaking about children on top of the fact that she and the other employees openly spoke about their favorite and least-favorite kids in front of them, and you have a very biased and unfair place to work and study. I would never recommend this Kumon learning centers as a place to either work or send your children.

My daughter was a 8th grade student who consistently made the honor roll, however she had gaps in her foundational reading and math skills that reveal themselves as her class work got more advanced. A friend told me about Kumon and I decided to have her evaluated. They were able to diagnosis where her skills in math and reading stopped being solid and where she needed to go back and build up a strong foundation before she could confidently succeed with more advanced work. Their assessment was really straight forward and spot-on. Within 18 months the amazing team at the East Amherst Kumon Center had her solidly back on track. We were completely impressed with the Kumon curriculum. But that combined with the exceptional leadership and dedication of Daniel Jung, the center's director, is what really set this program apart. Daniel and his staff provided highly personalized and very effective instruction that my daughter was not getting at school. They are passionate and driven, and inspired my daughter to be the same way in her about her work. I hope that this review will influence others to explore the East Amherst Kumon center and be able to experience the same game changing benefits we did! This is my way of “paying forward” what my friend did for us by telling us about Kumon.

Kumon has been great for my son. He loves to read and do math. He has excelled as a result of the Kumon program and specifically the director of this center, Mr. Daniel Jung. He is patient with all the kids and understands how to help them succeed. He has high standards but is willing to accommodate the needs of his students. I highly recommend this center and working with Mr. Jung.

Very bad service. Some of the workers are just rude and disrespectful. Some of the workers didn't even help with homework, they sit down and talk to each other and ignore you if you need help. One time the manager wasn't there, so the workers ordered pizza and had a party, and didn't help anyone with homework. The workers would make you feel bad about yourself at times. They would even talk about you behind your back to other workers ( they thought I couldn't hear.) This kumon also put you on the same level for 1 year, even if your doing really well. I wouldn't recommend coming here.

The new owner of Kumon Mr Juii Hsin has really turned the place around. He is very considerate, flexible and evidently really likes the job he is doing - tutoring children. He even volunteered to drop the work packets home one week when my child could not make it to Kumon. Recommended. Google has the wrong location for this kumon center. My son has been going to this center since March 2011. He has grown so much and Kumon really helped him getting advanced with his school education. He is also enrolled in Gifted Programs and has received the best grades in class. He looooovvesss MATH! This center is also very well organized. The instructor is very accommodating. You can ask for homework the day of and she’ll make arrangements to have the homework ready for pickup. The center used to not have a separation between front door to the study area, but it has since changed. There is now a separation between front door and the study area where an assistant can make sure anyone going in/out is either parent/guardian/student and not just a random person!

Kumon Southeast Lexington is a superior educational program for everyone from three years old to beyond (adults too!). Both of my daughters are enrolled at this Kumon center. With the help of Kumon Southeast Lexington, my 4 -year-old is writing and reading, and my 6-year-old mastered three-digit subtraction before entering first grade. The owner at this Kumon center is a former polymer scientist. Her intelligence, and focus, as well as her passion for academic excellence are all very apparent. She also has a sincerely kind spirit and is responsive to parents' questions and concerns. If your child's education is paramount to you, please seek out Kumon to supplement his or her education at school. As a Kumon mom, I would also be happy to answer any specific questions relating to our experiences at Kumon in Lexington, KY. You can catch me on Twitter (@AnnaSeacat) or Google+.

She is approachable all the times to discuss my child’s progress and performance and answers all of our questions well. This has helped me gain a better understanding of the Kumon method and how it has helped my child. My daughter has a big improvement after joining this center and she has moved ahead of her grade level and now truly feels smart and skilled. Thanks to Kumon and Mrs. Sudha Chopra!!! We are having a very very bad experience with Summerlin Kumon where we have my kid going for the past 6months. My kid has been going to Kumon for almost 3 years now and we have had a very good experience when we lived in California with Kumon and hoped for the same experience here but it was just a disaster and my child instead of improving it is going downhill right now. My kid literally feels the experience as harassing any day he goes to Kumon. I have been in contact with them about my contract as I have not signed any contract as such for an year as our discussion with instructor was to check for a few months how he feels but now she is saying we have written a contract and I have been repeatedly asking someone to call me without much luck and you can see all the communications below.

I am a former employee – had to leave to start college. I think that this is a great place to work. I was there a little less than a year but found the progress of the students to be really rewarding. There were a lot of students I helped consistently who showed a lot of improvement. One student in junior high was failing her math class and at Kumon, we returned loads of problems to correct but for some reason, the red marks on Kumon worksheets didn’t scare her. In the time I saw her, she managed to get up to a B-average, which might not seem like a lot to most but considering that she was failing, I’d say that’s a definite improvement. I think part of the reason is that there is more of a smaller-group atmosphere.

When my son started they discussed and developed a plan for his work. This helped him a lot to stay committed to the plan. Tutors were approachable and available whenever my son needed help with the work. His kumon math definitely reflected in his grades in school. We started attending Kumon when Kendall was 4 years old and Jonah was 6. They are now 12 and 8 and they still go to Kumon. Kumon helped them becoming excellent students in both reading and math. They both are top students in their class as they keep exceeding because they do their Kumon daily work sheets and they attend Kumon center twice a week. The gradual ascent of my boys from level to level made Kumon seem easier. The constant evaluation by the amazing, kind, encouraging and knowledgeable instructor, Mauricio, and the rest of the staff, also made my boys confident of their work. Kumon curriculum is very well designed to fit each level with plenty of practices. You might think it is extra work that kids will refuse to do, which happens sometimes but they get used to it and they become fast in finishing their homework. we owe a lot to Kumon. It really helped my both boys academically, not to mention the nourishing atmosphere.

Kumon of Norman is the best money that my husband & I have spent on our children's education. Our children have been attending this center for the past seven years. They started Kumon when they were five years old. They have made straight A's all through elementary school and middle school. They were accepted into the gifted program as well. I am very certain their success in school is mainly due to Kumon. I love this center!!! The staff & teachers are amazing. Mauricio, the owner and instructor, is excellent with children. He's extremely knowledgeable, encouraging and patient. It's obvious that teaching is his passion. He enjoys seeing his students excel in school and works hard with parents to ensure their success. I highly recommend Kumon of Norman. Parents who want to see their children be academically successful need to seriously consider becoming part of this Kumon family. I’m grateful to this amazing center for all that they have done for my children. The state government leaves a huge gap between public school education and top notch education. Kumon of Norman bridges that gap. My husband & I are so very grateful!

During previous summer we looked around for a good after school to improve our daughter's math skills. She just finished her second grade and the only practice they gave her was simple calculation. Never make your children suffer this kumon torture, this kumon is time consuming, I was a student at kumon and it sucked. Kumon makes you do lots of repetition and its really boring and my math grade went down at school cause I barely had time to do my actual school homework, so no kumon doesn't help for reading it does but not for math!!!! just go on youtube and look at all the kids suffering this kumon crap. and I hope intructors and the people who work at kumon read this because they dontknow what its like to actually do this unnecessary work. it brings to much stress to families andlots of arguments an u can barely enjoy life because at th end of the day u always have to do this 10 page worksheet! when I was going to kumon I missed out on so many partys, sleepovers and family reunions because I was forced to do kumon. this kumon needs to stop now

We registered our daughter in Kumon Math in grade 5 because we thought the math in elementary school was not rigours or robust enough. We found the Kumon program to be very value added relative to the cost of other programs or the option of a private school.

My son was struggling with reading in Grade 2. I was devastated when I received a letter informing me that he was being placed in the resource room for extra assistance. The next week we joined Kumon, and within 2 months he was out of the resource room and was reading at grade level. Within 6 months he far exceeded our expectations and was reading above grade level. Yeah! We have switched over to math, not because he is struggling at all, but to help fulfill his dreams of becoming an engineer. We have hit stumbling blocks along the way, with my son wanting to drop out at times. However, Chelsea and Lindsay always seem to gently persuade him to push a little further to achieve his goals. Thank you Ladies!

However, things changed and teachers at school had less and less time to explain the units two or three times again. Her frustration made her more and more shy and her self-confidence was going down fast. But a good friend of ours talked to us about Kumon and immediately we set up an appointment. Since then my daughter is part of this amazing program which combines good teaching techniques and an excellent environment to study. Kumon teachers returned her the confidence to ask again and the self-confidence that she was loosing because of the low grades. We strongly believe that there is no more valuable treasure than education and knowledge because they will open all the doors for the future to our kids. I don't stop to thank every Kumon teacher for the wonderful job done.

Our family (children are 11 and 6) is having a great Kumon experience at this centre. The centre is clean, bright, welcoming and comfortable. My oldest has already improved math test results and my youngest enjoys it so much that she even designs her own booklets.

Our son has been enrolled with Katerina for a couple of years. He has autism & we can honestly say that Katerina & her staff have been amazing! They are aware of Mason's needs & what he is capable of & have been very concerned about his well being & also inquiring how he is doing in school. Mason has shown such growth & we are very appreciative of Katerina, her staff & Kumon as a whole of everything they have done & will continue to do for Mason. Thank you Kumon!

In my experience, the Ira Needles Kumon Centre is the last place that anyone who cares about their children’s and their own emotional and financial well-being should have any association with. I am still being owed money and monthly fees that I was charged unbeknownst to me, long after I took my child out of the programme. Repeat attempts to recover what’s rightfully mine in a civilized manner were initially met with raised voices and ultimately with indifference and contempt. Biggest mistake I made was to allow pre-authorized payments, as in the Centre’s access to my account…not good at all. I truly hope the reader will learn from my experience and I am the last one to be abused by these people…

Think twice before enrolling your child to this Kumon Center. My child attended for a year. We realized that this program was not helping her and cancelled. A week later the instructor re-enrolled my child for two subjects and withdrew money from my account without my permission. Needless to say that the money was not returned even after we had a very unpleasant discussion. A week later I had to ask my bank to step in in order to recuperate the money. If you think that Kumon is the after school program for your child I would recommend that you choose another center and not give access for automatic withdrawal.

Caren is one of the best Kumon owners I've ever worked with, she is dedicated, honest, and open minded. When my children addressed concerns (too hard, repetitive or boaring) she took the time to work with them individually and used smart techniques to make them feel in charge of their own success & take control of their situation, she empowered them and this changed the way they think and take on challenges. She surely put your children's interest ahead. Its such a pleasure to have my kids with her! We love you Caren! Khadra Family

When I started at Kumon two years ago, I barely knew the basics of multiplication. Now I am a year and a half ahead of my class in mathematics. My instructor Mrs. Sethi was and is extremely helpful and I know that if I ask her for help, she'll explain it to me in a way I can understand.

Hated this place soo much. The kumon reading and math program is soo bad. All they do is give you work and NOT TEACH YOU ANYTHING. They give you worksheets with a few examples and expect you to learn everything by yourself. If you don't understand something, good luck because the instructors there can barely help you. They're not even qualified math or english teachers, mostly high school students. Plus the program is soo expensive!!! They don't teach and expect you to pay soo much. This program is only good for little kids and not for older students in high school. Don't even waste your time on this program.

I went to register my son at Kumon, and the guy there was so rude. He asked me if it's the first time for my son at the Kumon, I said no because my son was only around 6 when I registered him there, and after a few months he didn't like it there at all. He would cry every time and I thought I should give a break for some time and so this time I talked to my son and he agreed and said he wanted to go because he needs help in math. So I went there and the guy at the Kumon said "your son didn’t like it here before, so he’s not going to like it this time either, so I can't take him back. I don’t want to waste your time and money."

Kumon initially started off as a good supplement to the school learning. But as the levels got harder the instructor seem displeased at using more time to help my son, so instead of helping they decided to send him home with homework that he had done six months earlier. I found out when he finished homework in five minutes instead of the usual 30-45 minutes.

My son studied at Kumon for more than one year. But one evening the center head talked to me so rudely, asking me to make my son quit Kumon. He had no legitimate reason but was so rude to my son and me. He said my son asks too many questions and needs more help and Kumon principles do not permit that. That guy was not even ready to explain and even talk to me politely. I wonder if they can't talk politely to parents, how they must be treating kids. I am so disappointed. I will inform my friend circle to not to send their kids to Kumon.

I took my daughter to a Kumon Center for a year (forced to do this due to a contract). I cannot recommend the program in any way. While the rote memory of very basic math operations might help some younger students for a short time, the program is not at all in step with the curricula children face in school. The program is of no benefit to older students - other than to frustrate them. The “Reading” program is an unfocused hodgepodge of some of the elements of English and of minimal use.

My son went to Kumon in this summer. He spent all his summer until August but couldn't learn any new thing. He is six and they asked him to repeat the same level of math for atleast three times and took all his time in doing 200 pages for three times while he already knows the concept. It was just additions, which he already did in kindergarten. And the staff was really rude, and when I told them that I do not want to continue they did not even ask the reason but they took extra fees for last month even though my son didn't go the whole month.

We started our son at the age of 3, despite many of our friends and family questioning why we were starting him so young. My half-joking, half-serious answer: how else is he going to learn to do calculus by the 6th grade? Anyway, part of the reason we were sold on this Kumon was because of Debbie, the owner of this location. She exudes caring, and works to build long-term relationships with the parents. I've often commented to her that it's more work on her part to do it her way, but that's what makes her special. There were a handful of times that we worked out some accelerated schedules with her for our son, who was doing so well with his reading that he was moving ahead of his school's pace, so we crafted a strategy with Debbie for how to keep close to the Kumon model while keeping a good track with his school. With our experience, Kumon is equally good at remedial as it is with enrichment, but it's the teacher that makes the difference. I can't comment on all Kumon centers because they're independently operated, so I will only comment on the Manoa (and associated Kailua center) location, that go to see Debbie if you want to help your child get ahead.

I like to say, The teachers there are very nice! But the owner doesn't seems to have patience for young children. My son is 3 and half, and as a normal 3 year olds they can have a bad day, here and there. The teachers are normally vey nice about it, But today for the owner to say my son cannot have his moment and when calmed downed to go back and do his lesson, which we had paid for is ridiculous. he made the choice to go back in to do his lessons after he calms down and to say he cannot have such behaviors and she wont allow it because it is like giving kids choices of crayons and they will not make good decisions, this and that to me is a bit insensitive and rude. Children should be allow to calm down and try again, especially if i paid for the lessons....as a moment is already embarrassed and frustrated to try to teach my son that he has to make good decisions and for him to final make the choice on his own and she said that, i am not happy. Plus i told my son because he made a bad choice he cannot take his lesson, which made him more upset and asked to go do his lessons but i had to tell him, he cannot because he didnt make it a good choice earlier and the lady wont allow it. Now my son keep say "mommy please, can i do my kumon" "i said please" "i made a good choice, can i go do my kumon?" really pissed me off that this lady won't even allow him to try, after he calms down and to say she wont allow it. Plus mind you, I had PAID for this lesson, so he should be entitled to his lesson. So for her to say she wont allow my son to try again after he calmed down to take a lesson we paid for is crap!!!

I have a 9 year-old who has attended the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Manoa since he was 3. Ms. Debbie is the head Instructor here and she also has a location at Kailua Elementary School. Kumon and Ms. Debbie have our utmost confidence and we recommend both. Over the years I have come to realize that a student's teacher(s) and the curriculum at school change every academic year, for better or worse. Parents are also typically stuck with standardized testing, core curriculum, etc. and grading systems that can be abstract (i.e. "exceeds expectations..."). In addition to building math and reading proficiency, Kumon provides parents with an objective measure of where their child stands. The student gets the benefit of academic continuity from the Kumon program and a great instructor like Ms. Debbie. The bottom line is that Kumon and Ms. Debbie have been there for us throughout the years. I am extremely cautious about who is in contact with my child. Another plus for the Manoa Kumon is its excellent staff retention - most have been here since we first started attending. Finally, for those of you who are navigating the private school admissions scene, I would note that we were admitted to our school of choice. Kumon was key to this process and Ms. Debbie is very knowledgeable about the local education marketplace.

I have been sending my 9 year old to this Kumon for the last 4 years and I can honestly say it has been helping him with his reading and math. His reading scores are way above the national average as reported on his results on a private school standardized test. His math scores were a bit lower, but still above the national average. I believe this is the case because he was given the extra consistent work Kumon provides. The staff at Manoa Kumon is very friendly and really works well with the students. I also just started my 5 year old a few months ago, and he too is showing progress. His elementary school teacher says he is doing well and his penmanship is above average I recommend this Kumon 100%!!!!!!!!!!!

Once upon a time, I was a little girl who just turned 6 years old. My mom and dad told me that I would be going to a place that will help me learn my ABC's and 123's better, and it isn't like my normal school that I was already attending. My dad told me that I'll have a new teacher plus the ones I already have at my normal school, and her name was Ms. Debbie. That Saturday morning, I walked up the steps and down the hall to a light blue door (see attached local picture). We met Ms. Debbie there, and she showed me all these fun worksheets with letters and numbers on them. She even showed me a fun board game about matching numbers. That is one of my earliest memories of learning, and I haven't stopped wanting to learn since. Today, almost 20 years later, I bring my 4-year-old son here every Saturday morning for his weekly Kumon meetings. I still see Ms. Debbie and now my son has her as a teacher. She is still as I remember her all those years ago; still open, loving, and passionate about the Kumon program. Her staff, though different from the ones I had as a child, is wonderful just like her and have such a great approach to teaching: compassionate and challenging; patient and determined. My son immediately felt comfortable and continues to build confidence and knowledge in the program. The program is designed such that students meet at the Kumon center once or twice week for their lessons. Afterward, the teacher sends each student home with lessons to complete every day until the next meeting at the center. This is my favorite program attribute: PARENTS ARE INTEGRAL TO THE PROGRAM. Parents help their child complete lessons and they also check their lessons accordingly. To me, these activities foster and cultivate the parent-child relationship. As the child progresses in the program, timed tests are taken to advance to each level (this is different for the younger students like my son). There are no grades; just encouragement. As a mom and former student of this Kumon center, I cannot say enough about all the positives and anything about the negatives (because really, there are none). Having experienced and utilized the benefits of this program first hand, I am investing in my son's learning for approximately $110 each month (per subject: math or reading). I believe in this program because Kumon believed in me.

Ms. Debbie and her staff at the Manoa Kumon Center are dedicated to students and are open three times a week for students to attend the center. We were able to pick up Kumon lessons prior to our vacation so our daughter wouldn't fall behind in her lessons. The stories in the Reading lessons are interesting and include classics, fiction and non-fiction passages. The staff is accommodating and friendly. If you are thinking about sending your child to Kumon, this is the center to visit!

My 11 year old son had been struggling in math a few years ago, which is why I decided to sign him up for Kumon in Manoa. This was one of the best decisions I've made for him. Debbie and her staff are great at providing him with challenging repetitive worksheets that have helped to make him become so much more confident in math. In fact, he has achieved above average scores on the Hawaii State Assessment test in the math section since he has attended Kumon. One of the best benefits as a parent, is that he gets less frustrated while doing his homework, and is able to complete it with no help from me most of the time, allowing for more quality time shared between us. Thank you Debbie and the Manoa Kumon staff for taking the time to encourage and strengthen my son's math abilities! We are very appreciative!

My son Tommy attends the Center under the direction of Debra and her staff. He was taking Kumon Math to help him at Midpacific Institute. He had to take an accelerated Algebra class in 4 weeks over the summer. Thanks to the caring team at the Manoa Kumon he was able to earn an A. They exceeded my expectations. I also could bring hom to their site at Kailua elementary school Mahalo Debbie.

My son has been attending the Manoa Kumon Center for about 3 year now and my wife and I are pleased with the strides my son has made in math and reading. My son is 7 years old now in the 1st grade and his reading and math skills are at the 3rd grade level. Ms. Tajiri (or Ms. Debbie as my son refers to her as) has been encouraging and insightful of my son's learning aptitude. From my experience the staff members have shown dilligence and patience in tutoring my son. At first the daily exercises seemed repetitious but as I reviewed the work over the months the more I began to see that the exercises built a solid foundation which set the stage for the next levels of math and reading. We're happy we choose to send our son to Kumon.

We have 2 daughters who attend Kumon at the Manoa campus. They both started at the beginning of kindergarten, so the adjustment of doing homework and Kumon appeared seamless. Our oldest daughter is currently in the 4th grade and recently tested into her school's "gifted and talented" program. We are proud to attribute her academic success thus far, to the Kumon program and Manoa staff. They are always positive, calm, and always willing to help the student and parents in any way they can. Our other daughter, currently in Kindergarten, just started and feels like a big girl doing Kumon along side her sister. We sometimes struggle getting our kids to do their Kumon daily, but found that doing Kumon in the morning works out better then after school when they are tired. My husband and I strongly feel that a child's outlook on school is heavily based on their academic success. If the school work is easy for them, then they tend to be more confident in themselves and willing to try new things. If they are constantly having a difficult time in school, they tend to dislike going to school and lack confidence in their abilities. Debbie's staff are all long time employees, and cumulatively have a wealth of knowledge and experience. They all sincerely enjoy watching our children's spirits grow through hard work and perseverance. I highly recommend the Manoa Kumon Center. Debbie, Wade, Tiara, and Andrew are all warm, welcoming, and treat everyone like family.
